Fox News Video: Personal Trainers for Children

This 24-hour certification course provides students with current foundational knowledge and training to assess fitness levels, design fitness programs, and provide exercise instruction and motivation for children. Contact W.I.T.S. to order your required textbook 888-330-9487.

Learning Outcomes: 
After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe safe, effective, age-appropriate exercises for children.
  2. Demonstrate safe, effective, age-appropriate exercises for children.
  3. Assess fitness levels of children.
  4. Explain factors that motivate children to exercise. 
  5. Design fitness programs that incorporate principles of child motivation.

Pre-Requisite:
This is an intermediate to advanced course for students with some experience or education. Pre-requisite:  Bachelors Degree or Personal Fitness Trainer Certification.

Methods of Instruction: 
Lecture, hands-on practice and demonstration, practical skills assessment and final examination.

Completion Requirements: 
Students must earn a score of 70% or higher on the written and practical exams. Attendance is required and students are only allowed one excused absence. Students with an excused absence must schedule a make-up session and complete any work assigned. Adult/Child CPR required for certification.

  1. Theory and Fitness Assessment, Exercise Physiology
  2. Safe, Effective, Age-Appropriate Exercise Prescription, Designing Exercise for Children Youth Motivation, Designing Fitness Programs That Are Motivating To Children
  3. Cardiovascular Exercise Activities, Muscular Strength and Endurance Activities,     Flexibility Activities
  4. Practical and Written Exam

 

Credits: 
24 contact hours.  Approved for 24 WITS CECs and 2.4 IACET and BOC CEUs. Recommended for 1 undergraduate academic credit by the American Council on Education.

Registered students receive discounts on study DVDs and practice exams.  Students who do not pass the course the first time can retake the course and re-test for a reduced fee.
