Indoor Cycling Basics
Designed specifically for the entry-level instructor, Norma Shechtman, 2003 ACE Fitness Instructor of the Year, shares with you the basic elements needed to instruct a comprehensive indoor cycling class. Teach others to safely use the bike and components, proper form and riding techniques and the benefits of cycling. Learn creative formats to make your class a fun-filled fitness experience.
Course Objectives:
- Assist class participants to properly set up the bicycle, ride in proper body alignmnet and make equipment adjustments.
- Demonstrate and teach safety precautions on the bicycle.
- Design and write a class program including a warm-up, the ride and a cool down.
- Conduct a thirty-minute ride including all of the basic positions and riding techniques.
- Discuss physical, psychological and performance benefits of cycling.
- Discuss and incorporate cycling terminology.
- Discuss teaching techniques specific to indoor cycling programming.

Norma Shechtman, BS, MS, MA has talents and expertise that are well documented, ultimately leading to the ACE (American Council on Exercise) Fitness Professional of the Year Award on March 1, 2003. Previously, in 2002, Norma was nominated as one of the top three fitness professionals in the world from ACE. She holds a bachelors and masters degree in education and a masters degree in kinesiology. Norma holds certifications in Pilates, personal training, group fitness, kickboxing, indoor cycling, water fitness and many others. In addition, Norma travels the world presenting the latest training information to fitness professionals.
