I have found in my years in the industry that most trainers’ do not understand the importance of core training. Mr. Gellar addresses this importance providing a clear understanding as to why it is important and how it should be implemented into an exercise regime. The book goes into great detail in regards to dysfunctions of the shoulder, overtraining, muscle imbalances and how to restore balance of the body and shoulder to prevent injury and/or weakening of the joint. He also addresses the surgery, the rehabilitation with time frames on transitioning the client back to exercise. This is valuable information for personal trainer so that they know how to progress a clients’ training, when to stop and when they need to talk to an allied health professional. The book concludes with functional strengthening exercises, the importance of periodization training and sport specific training and how to design a successful training program that is safe and effective. I consider him to be one of the best educators I have had the privilege to work with.
