RE: College Internship Program
To Whom It May Concern:

The World Instructor Training Schools, in conjunction with it's educational higher learning institutions, has implemented a required internship for many of its certifications. The concept is as simple as in any other health career, you must have more than just book knowledge. The practical skills or "hands on", as we like to refer, are essential for safety and confidence of the instructors and the clients. We remember what it was like to get started in the field. Supervision and veteran guidance is essential to take that next step into this people oriented profession.

Internship sites are wanted and utilized for valued experiences only after our students have graduated and demonstrated their core knowledge through a written exam and an individual practical skills exam. The practical skills exam culminates after 5 weeks of hands on training, drills and homework revolving around a SHOW, TELL & DO format. Employable graduates are what this process is all about and it works!

The W.I.T.S. college programs are approved for college credits from the American Council on Education, the Board of Certification for athletic trainers, The International Association of Continuing Education & Training, Veterans Education & Training, National Board of Fitness Examiners and many state workforce agencies as well.Key benefits - A graduate list will be provided to all active internship clubs to help you anytime with your staffing needs throughout the year.  A college certificate of your community activity will be sent as well to highlight your club.  Post it on your wall and be proud of the collegiate affiliation for you and your members.

Your site, if you wish to participate, will be placed on our college intern list for students to select. The students are issued this list only after they successfully complete the program and pass their written and practical lab exams. The benefits are huge for your facility. You get a great look at program graduates that can assist your business goals. See how well they know their material, while they interact with clients and support staff. Are they on time, professionally dressed and motivated? This one of a kind program allows graduates valuable field experience before embarking on employment. No other certification offers this as a requirement except the World Instructor Training Schools. If they do not satisfactorily complete their internship, they will not be issued a final certification. A form is presented by the graduate for you to sign for the hours completed. Please sign that form at the conclusion of the internship. The student will mail it in to W.I.T.S.

You are under no obligation to accept any of our graduates. If you do not feel comfortable in the interview process, then certainly do not schedule them. Please call me at any point if you have any questions. We are a team in this process! I look forward to it being a big plus for you and your facility.

Yours in Good Health,

Internship Directives:

The mission of this program is to make this a final qualifier for a student to receive certification after the W.I.T.S. 6 week course and testing. A student must pass both their written and practical skills exam requirements to qualify for this stage. A student will find a source from their community to participate in a 30-hour practical internship (as of June 1, 2009). There is no cost to the student or the employer. Once they have met the required list below, they must have the form signed by the supervising official. The form will be returned to W.I.T.S. for verification. The permanent wall and wallet certification will then be issued. The certification is good for 24 months before renewal qualifiers will be due.

Level one of the 30 hours:

1. An intern must follow around a senior certified/degreed trainer, of at least 18 months of experience, as they workout clients in all phases. The duration of this will be 20 hours.

Level two of the 30 hours:

2. An intern will co-train a client with a senior trainer with varying components of the workout. Our suggestion is to flip flop one exercise from the senior trainer and one then from the W.I.T.S. intern under the supervision of the club senior trainer. This will be 5 hours in total duration.

Level three of the 30 hours:

3. The intern will solely lead a client through a complete workout under indirect supervision of one of the club’s trainers. This will be 5 hours in total duration.

Thank you for your participation.
