Prepare for a career in health and fitness club management.  This 36-hour course presents a comprehensive blueprint for developing, leading, managing, and operating a successful health and fitness business. Topics include: the health and fitness club industry, trends, managing club membership, financial and human resources, facilities, operations, marketing and programming for a fitness club. Learning Outcomes: 
After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Apply strategies for developing and retaining fitness club members.
  2. Differentiate between the various fitness club settings and facilities.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of basic legal, business and financial requirements for       establishing a fitness club.
  4. Identify facility design elements, equipment, operations and maintenance.
  5. Manage human resources in a fitness club.
  6. Manage operations and apply effective risk management strategies.

Pre-Requisite:
This is a beginner to intermediate course for students with little or no experience or education.

Methods of Instruction: 
Lecture, group discussion, professional project and final examination.

Completion Requirements: 
Students must earn a score of 70% or higher on the written exam and professional project.   Attendance is required and students are only allowed one excused absence. Students with an excused absence must schedule a make-up session and complete any work assigned.

36 contact hours.  Approved for 36 WITS CECs and 3.6 IACET and BOC CEUs.
