The Introduction to Personal Trainer is an introductory course designed for those interested in learning the fundamentals of fitness.  Many find it helpful as a preparatory course for the more in depth certification courses. The 24-hour course has 12 hours of lecture and 12 hours of practical lab. Those completing the entire course will get certificate of completion. A soft back textbook is required and can be purchased by calling 888-330-9487.

Learning Outcomes: 
After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the reasons for individual assessment testing.
  2. Correctly demonstrate one exercise for each major muscle group.
  3. Correctly demonstrate a safe stretch for each area of the body.
  4. List the improvements the body will go through with regular exercise.
  5. Describe the fundamentals of exercise programming.

Pre-Requisite:
This is a beginner level course for students with little or no experience or education in fitness training.

Methods of Instruction: 
Lecture, demonstration, hands-on practice and final examination. Registered students receive course workbook and student study guide.

Completion Requirements: 
Students must earn a score of 70% or higher on the exam.  Attendance is also required and students are only allowed one excused absence.  Students with an excused absence must schedule a make-up session and complete any work assigned.

  1. Methods for evaluating and improving health and fitness
  2. Helpful hints on how to change health related behaviors
  3. Injury prevention
  4. Exercise programming strategies
  5. Tips for dealing with special personal conditions and environmental problems
  6. Sample programs

Credits: 
24 contact hours. Approved for 24 WITS CECs and 2.4 IACET and BOC CEUs.

Additional Resources:
Registered students receive discounts on study DVDs and practice exams.  Students who do not pass the course the first time can retake the course and re-test for a reduced fee.
