Exercise Program Design for Special Populations:
This course will provide guidance for designing exercise programs for special population. This class focuses on exercise programming for persons with hypertension, CAD, asthma, obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis and common musculoskeletal challenges.

 

Presenter - Kazuko Aoyagi

Kazuko "Kaz" Aoyagi, Ph, D., is certified by ACSM, ACE and the University of California, Berkeley. She is also recognized as an Elite Personal Trainer by  IDEA Health and Fitness Association and is an expert in lifestyle and weight management. Her area of expertise includes clinical exercise specialist, older adults, pre and post natal women, and running. Kaz is a central New Jersey director of WITS.

Learning Outcomes: 
After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the benefits of exercise and design safe and effective exercise for persons with hypertension.
  2. Explain the benefits of exercise and design safe and effective exercise for persons with CAD.
  3. Explain the benefits of exercise and design safe and effective exercise for persons with asthma.
  4. Explain the benefits of exercise and design safe and effective exercise for obese clients.
  5. Explain the benefits of exercise and design safe and effective exercise for diabetics.
  6. Explain the benefits of exercise and design safe and effective exercise for persons with osteoporosis.
  7. Explain the benefits of exercise and design safe and effective exercise for persons with arthritis.
  8. Explain the benefits of exercise and design safe and effective exercise for persons with common musculoskeletal challenges.

Pre-Requisite:
This is an intermediate to advanced course for students with some experience or fitness-related education.

Methods of Instruction: 
Lecture, group discussion, role-play and final examination.

Completion Requirements: 
Students must earn a score of 70% or higher on the written exam. 100% attendance is required.

  1. Hypertension, Diagnostic Tools and Medications, Exercise program design.    
  2. CAD, Diagnostic Tools and Medications, Exercise program design.
  3. Asthma, Diagnostic Tools and Medications, Exercise program design.
  4. Obesity and Exercise:  Diagnostic Tools, Exercise program design.
  5. Diabetes: Medications, Exercise program design.
  6. Osteoporosis:  Diagnostic Tools, Exercise program design.
  7. Arthritis:  Diagnostic Tools, Exercise program design.
  8. Musculoskeletal Challenges:  Diagnostic Tools, Exercise program design

 

Credits: 

6 contact hours.  Approved for 6 WITS CECs and, 6 IACET and BOC CEUs.

Additional Resources:

Registered students receive discounts on study DVDs and practice exams.  Students who do not pass the course the first time can retake the course and re-test for a reduced fee.
